When I started out playing my music in public in 2013, not just sitting around picking guitar with my friends, but playing open mics and busking, folks told me I needed to play 90% cover songs and 10% originals.
In my mind that was crazy because nobody else was going to play my songs but me, and if I didn't play them they'd never be heard. So that advice went out the window.
As a music consumer, when I went out to hear music I wanted to hear artists mainly play their originals and still do.
Understandably, a lot of the places I went to listen to music in weren't exactly the listening room type of place. People were there to drink, eat and socialize. There's not many listening room type of places where I'm from. There are a few, but mostly it's bars and restaurants that have live music.
My priority as an artist has always been playing my songs. I only play a handful of cover songs that I have taken and made my own rendition of, that I really like and feel good to me when I play them.
While I'm not everybody's cup of tea, I don't want to be either.
If you find music here that you like, moves you, or you connect with… Welcome! Thanks for listening!
